conversations with a half-asleep husband | 12.09.09

Scene: Nick has fallen asleep on top of the covers in the bedroom while watching television. At 11:00 pm, Brooke attempts to gently awaken Nick from his slumber to get him under the covers. Because really, it's quite annoying to try to get under the covers when someone else is on top of them. Am I right? Or am I right?

Brooke: "Honey, why don't you get under the covers."

Nick: "I don't get under anything that's prickly."

Brooke: "What? What's prickly?"

Nick: "The things on the computer screen."

Brooke: ........

Nick: "The computer screen is prickly. I swear I'm sort of making sense. Sort of."

We have these conversations probably once or twice a month. Sometimes I'm the half-asleep one who says hilarious things or speaks my own language. Sometimes he is. Regardless, hilarity always ensues (and there is a resulting great story to tell the culprit the following day). Methinks I'll be making this a little series on the bliggity blog :-)

  1. i'm completely guilty of that. i think that i have actually started arguments with chris because he didn't know what i was talking about.

  2. Haha so cute! This doesn't happen too often with us but a memorable one was when we were in Italy and I was deliriously tired... I said "I'm tired, you know? But not like, tired, tired. More like when people are tired."

It made complete sense to me at the time.

Now we say that all the time. "I'm tired like people are tired."

  6. Gah, one day the week before the wedding Nick woke me up to shout at me that "the ears were goign to show! No matter what we do the ears will show!!" and then he got really mad at me for not understanding. We still don't have a clue what he was refering to.

Usually I'm the talker, but that one one of the stranger ones. I also occasionally laugh as I fall asleep - bizarre.

  7. lol! this happened last night but it was me instead of sachin that was crazy. he told me that i was smiling like a total psycho in my sleep and kept saying "i don't want to stop smiling!"

meanwhile sachin has what we've dubbed sleep rage. when he falls asleep and i come into bed after him he just freaks out and violently kicks around and screams curse words occasionally. lol. so weird...

  8. My Hubs is stressed with 15 hours of college plus a senior seminar.. so stressed, he's started talking in his sleep. A couple of weeks ago, he woke me in the middle of the night by grabbing me in a *very* personal place and declaring, "NOW we're ready for turkey!"

Oh man, he'd kill me if he knew I just told you that story!
