happy holiday weekend (and a shorts update)

Memorial Day weekend is here! Woohoo! I hope you all have a happy and safe extended weekend. (Don't forget to take a moment to remember what the day is really about.) I'll be relaxing with my family and perhaps partaking in some adult beverages.

Oh, and an update on the shorts situation: I took a trip to Old Navy last night and tried on those Perfect Khaki Shorts (5"). I headed straight for the gray pair I had seen online... but you know what they don't show you online? They have BLEACH MARKS on them. Like, intentional, "I'm cool because my shorts look worn and old" bleach marks, under both front pockets. I was seriously annoyed, especially because ALL of the other colors were free of bleach marks. I ended up getting a purple pair (not shown online), which I really like, and they were on sale for $15, but I'm still perturbed.

This is NOT the look I'm going for.

(Okay I'm exaggerating a little bit. They didn't really look like that. But still, someone remind me why this is a trend?)

Anyway... happy weekend! Stay safe!

  1. Oh no! That is like acid wash's even uglier cousin! Who would wear that?
Happy you found some shorts. I have to go shopping for some next week and I'm a little nervous. I'm crossing my fingers I'll be as successful as you were.

  2. I don't understand bleach marks. I can do that myself for free! However, I also didn't understand buying pre-ripped jeans. I can also do that myself for free. I must be getting old...the next step is likely sitting on my porch and shaking my cane at the kids who skateboard into my yard. Damn kids, get off my lawn!

  3. @Marie, I hear you! I have never understood those fads, even when I was "young and hip." I get so frustrated when I find jeans that look like a decent fit but they have a few little holes or something to screw them up. I like my jeans hole-less, thankyouverymuch.

@girlonthepark - good luck! I'm sure you'll find some good ones.

  4. I happened upon your blog as I was image searching for info on Julie & Julia. Well, I just adore your writing style, your abhorrence of intentionally bleached shorts and generally sunny disposition on life. As someone an entire 6 months older than I am - I will add you to my 'Life Mentors' folder in Google Reader.

Well, that is that. I RSSvp'd yes to this blog and I expect great things from you. (I'm super excited for the addition!)
